In reports by various media sources UFC Dublin should be getting a pair of heavyweight sluggers to co-main the event in a fight that could have title implications.
‘Big’ Ben Rothwell (35-9), ranked 7th, and Stipe Miocic (13-2), ranked 4th, will do battle in Ireland on October 24th.
Stipe was recently linked to a possible title fight against Fabricio Werdum but the UFC opted to give him this mission instead. In his last fight he completely outclassed Mark Hunt this past May. Before that he controversially lost a decision to Junior dos Santos, a fight many believed he won.
Stipe fought once in Europe before. He lost to Stefan Struve in the main event of UFC on FUEL TV in Nottingham back in 2012, it was his first professional loss. In subsequent fights he beat Roy Nelson, Gonzaga, and Maldonaldo right before he fought JDS. Overall he is 7-2 in the UFC.
Rothwell is currently on the best run of his UFC career. The former IFL heavyweight alternated between wins and losses between 2009 and 2013 in the UFC. But now he is on a three fight win streak beating Brandon Vera, Alistair Overeem and Matt Mitrione, finishing all three.
The UFC Dublin fight card is as follows:
Joseph Duffy vs. Dustin Poirier
Stipe Miocic vs. Ben Rothwell
Tom Breese vs. Cathal Pendred
Scott Askham vs. Krzysztof Jotko
Reza Madadi vs. Norman Parke
Bubba Bush vs. Garreth McLellan
Paddy Holohan vs. Louis Smolka
Nicolas Dalby vs. Darren Till
