The Irish can now boast another fighter in the UFC as Dubliner and Team Ryano member Paul ‘Redser’ Redmond (10-4) has signed with the promotion.
It was first reported this morning by SevereMMA.com that the Redmond has signed a four-fight deal with the UFC and that his debut will take place later this month at UFC Sweden on the same card as his teammate Neil Seery. The news follows the recent announcement of the UFC signing Joseph Duffy.
Redmond will face undefeated American Top Team fighter Mirsad Bektic (8-0) who made his UFC debut in April last year on the UFC on FOX 11 card. Bektic was originally set to face Alan Omer but he had to withdraw from the contest. Omer’s loss is Redmond’s gain as now the 28-year-old will finally get to step foot in the Octagon.
The fight will however take place at featherweight despite the fact that Redmond has competed at lightweight most, if not all, of his career.
Alan’s Angle: Delighted for Redmond, he was my number 2 pick to enter the UFC this year. He is an exciting fighter with solid striking & incredible submission attacks and is not the type to try eek out a decision win. It wouldn’t surprise me if he has an eye on a bonus at UFC Sweden. The fact that the fight will take place in just under two weeks and at featherweight is a slight concern for me but Redmond has a great coaching staff and experienced teammates to help him, if at all he needs weight.
