Over the past number of years the KSW promotion have not been known to do anything in moderation whether it is to be filling out large arena’s, having grand opening ceremonies or matching some of MMA’s biggest and best known names to fight against one another.
However, it seems that the promotion is potentially set to outdo themselves for their KSW 35 show set to take place May 28th in the Ergo Arena, Gdansk.
Nothing is official yet but the promotion has made it known that they are working on potentially having all of the following fighters on the card: Mariusz Pudzianowski, Mamed Khalidov, Michal Materla, Kendall Grove and Marcin Rozalski.
KSW co-owner Maciej Kawulski revealed the promotions plans on Monday via ‘Puncher’ on Polish television:
“We are at this moment at the stage of planning three main events. Set to appear is Mamed Khalidov, and Mariusz Pudzianowski, and there is a high probability that Michael Materla will also be on the card. All in excellent clashes. I can not reveal who’s is fighting who, but I can say that each of these fights will be interesting. However, it is no secret that Michael Materla is trying to face Kendall Grove, they already fought once and it was ‘fight of the year’ in 2014 and it could be once again. We know what is being said in regards to Mamed Khalidov, but I’ll leave that as a secret for now.” (transcribed by MMARocks.pl and translated via Google Translator).
Pudzianowski (9-4, 1 NC) is one of the biggest names in Polish sport through his multiple ‘World’s Strongest Man’ wins and his over achievement in MMA having beaten Pride and UFC veterans during his six years as a professional mixed martial artist.
Mamed Khalidov (31-4-2) is known for being one the best fighters never to fight in the UFC. His fight resumé reads like a who’s who of MMA and has only tasted defeat once in his past 31 fights. He won the KSW middleweight title knocking out Michal Materla at KSW 33 in just over 30 seconds last November.
Michal Materla (22-5) has long been considered one of Europe’s elite fighters and has impressive wins over the likes of Matt Horwich, Jay Silva, Kendall Grove, and Tomasz Drwal, to name but a few, that back up those claims. He will be looking to bounce back from his loss against Khalidov and I have no doubt he will be looking to make a statement against his next opponent he is looking likely to be Kendall Grove.
TUF 3 winner and 13-time UFC competitor Kendall Grove (22-15, 1 NC) looks poised to return to KSW. The Hawaiian fighter fought twice for the promotion in the past losing to both the aforementioned Materla and Khalidov. He has since went 4-2 defeating UFC vet Danny Mitchell and then posting a 3-2 record in Bellator.
Marcin Rozalski (5-4) is one of the most popular fighters in Poland. His popularity runs so deep that he was sponsored by Assassin’s Creed ahead of his last fight against James McSweeney in London. This heavyweight is a no frills fighter but is always dangerous and looks to punish his opponents with devastating power punches and kicks.
