WHOA! The annual UFC Memorial Day card has its main card announced with two title fights and a huge Lightweight fight.
Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones (15-1 UFC) will put his title on the line against number one contender Anthony Johnson (10-4 UFC). Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman (8-0 UFC) will defend his belt against Vitor Belfort (13-6 UFC), and top Lightweights Donald Cerrone (14-3 UFC) will take on Khabib Nurmagomedov (6-0 UFC) in a highly anticipated Lightweight bout.
The fight announcements were delivered during “UFC Tonight” via Ariel Helwani.
Also confirmed for the main card, is a Heavyweight bout between Travis Browne and Andrei Arlovski and a Flyweight fight pitting Joseph Benavidez against John Moraga.
UFC 187 goes down on May 23rd with Las Vegas the likely location, although this hasn’t been confirmed yet.
While this card looks absolutely insane I kind of feel that the UFC are overcompensating for some early bad luck they have suffered this year. I just pray to the higher powers that these fighters stay injury free in the run up to the fights. UFC have certainly had their fair share of injuries in the past and this will be the second card of 2015 they have announced to have two title fights. I think in a way they are probably hedging their bets with two title fights in a hope that things don’t do the same way as UFC 184! So lets all keep our toes/fingers and everything else crossed that the dreaded injury curse does not haunt this spectacular card!
