Jake Shields was labelled a “boring” fighter by his UFC 171 opponent Hector Lombard and when it was Shields’ turn to speak to the media he bit back at the Cuban-Australian by saying “I’ve always thought Hector is a pr**k! Everyone kinda knows that.”
Shields went on to say, “no one likes him in the gym. He is the guy who goes for all the new guys in the gym and tries breaking their ribs, breaking their arms, knocking them out.”
Lombard has a notorious reputation for being a hothead in the gym with countless ‘bust-up’ stories being told far and wide throughout the world of MMA.
Both fighters have had mixed success during their respective tenures in the promotion. Shields has posted a record of 4-2 (1 NC) with each of his wins coming via decision, Lombard has a record of 2-2 with both of his wins coming by way of devastating first round KO’s and his losses by close split decisions.
Hector has shown promise of being able to challenge anyone in the division and is a constant threat in his fights. Shields is on a great run of late and is undefeated since his disappointing first round loss to Jake Ellenberger in 2011. This fight could have major implications on the landscape of the welterweight division.
