Kansas-based all-female promotion Invicta FC today signed a major player in the Irish and European MMA scene as they snapped up the undefeated Catherine Costigan (5-0).
Training out of the Pankration Kickboxing Academy in Limerick, Costigan has been a feared fighter in the women’s atomweight division and has found it difficult getting matched in the past. That all changed when she signed with Cage Warriors and won three-straight in the promotion and looked a shoe-in to become the promotion’s first ever champ at 105lbs.
However with Cage Warriors’ recent troubles it seemed that Costigan was back to square one. But today after weeks of speculation news finally broke that the 35-year-old has officially signed with Invicta.
“I’m excited and determined to fight for Invicta,” said Costigan via a press release. “I plan on having the atomweight belt around my waist by 2016.”
She has also put a warning out to any possible opponents.
“When they enter the cage with me, they should expect that it’s going to be their hardest fight both technically and mentally.”
