After the massive success that was BAMMA 22 the UK based promotion are planning to go even bigger in their return to the Emerald Isle. Today they announced the following match-ups set to take place in Dublin’s 3Arena on February 27th.
Two fights will headline the card but will not feature in the UK vs. Ireland theme:
MW- Cheick Kone (13-3) vs. John Phillips (18-6-1) – title fight
BW- Tom DuQuesnoy (11-1-1) vs. Damien Rooney (10-4-1)
Ireland vs. England
WW- Peter Queally (6-2) vs. Nathan Jones (9-4)
MW- Chris Fields (10-7-1) vs. Andy DeVent (12-10)
MW- Paul Byrne (6-0) vs. Bola Omoyele (8-4)
LW- Myles Price (8-6) vs. Mario Saeed (6-2)
Alan’s Angle: A very big fight for Damien Rooney who has not had the best of luck in recent times with niggling injuries. This is a massive opportunity to get a win over a highly touted prospect in Tom DuQuesnoy which would obviously give his UFC dream a massive boost.
It looks like Chris Fields will be stepping out at least one more time. He lost disappointingly at BAMMA 22 but before he got submitted he did look impressive and many actually have said the his opponent did tap thus leaving some controversy on the fight. This fight could truly be one last roll of the dice for Fields, who now has not tasted victory in a full professional fight since 2012.
Another fighter who has a big opportunity is Paul Byrne. The undefeated, heavy hitting, middleweight looked great in his win over Conor Cooke at BAMMA 22 but now has an opportunity to get a scalp over a UFC vet in Bola Omoyele. Fights like this are integral for any fighter looking to get to the UFC.
