Brandon Vera signs with ONE FC

It looks like former long-time UFC fighter Brandon Vera (12-7, 1 NC) has found a new home with Asian based promotion ONE FC.

The 36-year-old was recently released from the UFC after spending over eight years as a member of their roster. He entered the Octagon as an undefeated prospect and won his first four fights, including a win over Frank Mir. However his form then dipped over the subsequent years posting an unsavoury 4-7 and 1 no-contest since 2007.

Despite the slip in form Vera managed to up his stock with a thrilling war with ‘Shogun’ Rua in late 2012. Many had wrote off Vera heading into that fight but surprised many with the performance he churned in and although he lost he gained some much needed public confidence again.

His next fight was back and heavyweight against Ben Rothwell, he lost via TKO in the third round succumbing to the strikes of the much bigger Rothwell. That was in August of last year and hasn’t fought since.

ONE FC’s head honcho Victor Cui broke the news regarding signing Vera, who can fight at both heavyweight and light-heavyweight, via twitter earlier today. This signing adds to the ever growing list of big name fighters competing in the promotion.

No word yet as to when he will make his debut or who he will be fighting but one name being thrown around on Twitter is fellow UFC veteran and striking based fighter James McSweeney.

ONE FC’s next show will be a blockbuster card on August 18th in Dubai.
