Alvarez vs Cerrone set for UFC 178

What difference a day makes in this crazy world of MMA.

Earlier today it was revealed that Eddie Alvarez was granted his unconditional release from Bellator, something he has been clamouring for the past 2+ years. If that is not crazy enough Dana White then tweeted this evening (see below), just hours after the Alvarez news, that the lightweight has joined the UFC and will make his debut at UFC 178 against Donald Cerrone in the co-main event.

Cerrone had already been announced to face Bobby Green on the card but now Green will have to wait and will be given a new opponent on a different card as per UFC.com.

31-year-old Cerrone (24-6, 1 NC) has been a member of the UFC since 2011 and has fought an incredible 14 times posting a record of 10-3 and will be riding a four-fight-win-streak heading into UFC 178. Now former Bellator champ, Eddie Alvarez (25-3) has long been considered one of best fighters not under the UFC banner. He comes into the UFC on a three-fight-streak including wins over Mike Chandler and Shinya Aoki.

How exciting is this!?!
