Over the weekend former Strikeforce lightweight champ Josh “The Punk” Thomson tweeted the mother of all callouts and his target was Nick Diaz. Thomson said that he knocked out his brother Nate and he will knock his (Nick Diaz) “bitch ass out” in an apparent attempt to coax Diaz out of self-imposed exile and fight at UFC in San Jose on July 26th.
Then after a short period Thomson came out and claimed his phone was stolen and apologised for the tweets and that he has nothing but respect for the Diaz brothers.
However, Nate Diaz doesn’t believe Thomson and in typical “Nate” fashion he tweeted (in what we can assume was) a response to Josh Thomson. Here it is:
Thomson didn’t respond to Nate’s tweet and Nick Diaz has stayed tight lipped over the whole thing. Thomson has a long competitive history against that whole camp having competed in a title trilogy with Gilbert Melendez in Strikeforce and, as previously stated, knocked Nate Diaz out last year with a headick.
A fight with Nick would be fun. Both are very experienced fighters that don’t like to play the points game and if you add all the drama it could make for a good build-up. The only drawback is that Thomson is a lightweight and Diaz is a welterweight and both fighters are after the title in their respective divisions. So I really don’t know how good a fight against one another would help either in their quests. All this is of course based on whether Diaz returns to MMA.
