What’s on this weekend?

Another bustling weekend of MMA action is upon us and there is plenty for everyone across the globe. It is enough to make even the most die-hard of MMA fans a little lost and confused. But don’t worry, we have you covered.

ONE FC: War of Nations

Starting with tomorrow, ONE FC will host their first event of 2014 dubbed “War of Nations”. The well-travelled Brock Larson (37-7) will be competing for the inaugural welterweight title in the main event against Nobutatsu Suzuki (10-1). Both fighters made their ONE FC debut last year with Larson defeating Melvin Manhoef and Suzuki defeating Phil Baroni.

Bellator 112

Bellator 112 also takes place on Friday in the United States. A featherweight title rematch will headline a card that will feature the opening round of the welterweight tournament. Daniel Straus (22-4) will defend his title for the first time after winning it just last November by beating Pat Curran (19-5), the Bellator brass felt that that fight was so close it warranted this rematch between Curran and Straus, which indeed be the rubber match for the pair after meeting earlier in their careers.

The season 10 welterweight tournament suffered some serious blows recently after Joe Riggs and War Machine had to withdraw due to injuries. The tournament will feature notable fighters such as UFC veterans Nah-Shon Burrell (11-3) and Paul Bradley (21-5) and prospects Cristiano Souza (7-0), Sam Oropeza (10-2) and Andrey Koreshkov (14-1).

UFC 171

UFC 171 takes place Saturday night from Dallas, Texas with the event being particularly significant in the fact that it will crown a new welterweight champion for the first time in 6 years as Robbie Lawler with battle Johny Hendricks for the title vacated by GSP. Also in the welterweight division Carlos Condit faces Tyron Woodley and Jake Shields face Hector Lombard in, what should be, a heated affair.
