It was clear that there was a lot of tension between Wanderlei Silva and Charles Bennett heading into the Rizin Fighting World Grand Prix back in September and video has emerged which shows that the heat didn’t stop after the show.
Bennett fought and stopped Brazilian Minoru Kimura in just seven seconds and signalled to Wanderlei after the fight, keeping up the rivalry between the pair. A rivalry which stems all the way back to 2005 and an incident in which Bennett was choked out by Cristiano Marcello (Chute Boxe teammate of Wanderlei) backstage. Bennett then claimed he knocked out Silva after that but the video didn’t show this happening.
The pair almost got into a confrontation when Wanderlei arrived at the hotel in Tokyo ahead of the Rizin event and as you can see from the below the pair nearly come to blows, resulting in Wanderlei destroying Bennett’s trophy he won in his fight.
