A 25-year-old woman used what is described as a typical triangle on a would-be sex attacker named Mark Willis (pictured above right) in the UK recently. A court heard earlier in the week what happened during the attack before finding him guilty and convicting him of sexual assault.
According to the DailyMail.co.uk the woman was walking home at 2am when her attacker “repeatedly punched her and pushed her over a wall and into a garden.”
Apparently the woman attempted an armlock but the man wriggled it free and then she wrapped her legs around his head and squeezed until he passed out, this describes a typical guard exchange seen so many times in MMA/BJJ.
“My legs were free so I lifted my left leg up on to his shoulder and around the back of his neck. I crossed my right leg over and squeezed together as hard as I could,” said the woman in court via the DailyMail.
“He seemed to struggle for air – which was the point. His head was locked down. He lifted his right hand and pounded as hard as he could on the side of my face. I closed my eyes and held it for as long as I could hoping he would pass out in a few seconds. Then I felt his body go limp. I flipped him off, rolled over and crawled through the bushes to the door of the house.”
The woman then supposedly heard the man eventually flea the scene in a car.
Apparently the man’s DNA was found on the woman’s clothing, he had previous brushes with the law and was arrested soon after by police and was picked out of a line-up by the woman.
The judge awarded the woman £500 as a token for the man’s capture and commended her for her bravery during the attack.
Alan’s Angle: The article described the woman as a kickboxer but by the sounds of things it was her grappling skills that helped her. I always say to friends both male and female that behind all the ignorant stigma attached by the general public to both MMA and BJJ they are a fantastic way of learning some sort of self defense. If this woman did not possess the skill or obvious knowledge she obtained in a gym somewhere then who knows what she would have went through.
