UFC sign ‘The White Mike Tyson’

John Phillips has finally signed on the dotted line for the UFC and will meet Marcos Pezão currently on a record of 14-4-1. According to Combate who first reported the news Phillips, currently on a record of 21-6-1 will make his debut on the 28 January card for UFC on FOX 23 in Denver, which will be headlined by a clash between bantamweights Valentina Shevchenko and Julianna Pena.

Both men will join an already stacked card that will also see Donald Cerrone vs Jorge Masvidal and Andrei Arlovski vs Francis Ngannou. Phillips hinted on his Facebook page earlier this evening that an announcement of some shape would be forthcoming tomorrow and as yet the UFC are yet to make Combate’s scoop official.

Phillips will join a growing roster of Welsh fighters that as well as Jack Marshman also includes Brett Johns both of whom featured on the recent UFC card that took place in Belfast. ‘The White Mike Tyson’ has used his social media accounts to lightheartedly call for a shot in the UFC using recent signing Jack Marshman as the centre of his attention should he get the call. It would seem that whilst Marshman is clearly on his radar, that match up will have to wait for the time being.
