The UFC’s long running reality TV show ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ or ‘TUF’ is set to get another change to the format in an attempt to keep it fresh. Last season saw the very first all-female cast, creating a new division and a new champion.
Now this season, according to MMALatestNews.com, the UFC brass have went with the Gym vs. Gym theme and with an already existing rivalry already between the two Florida based gyms American Top Team and The Blackzilians it was an easy choice.
The two gyms have had a long running rivalry although it has quietened down in recent time. But expect this to change come show time. No time-frame was mentioned for the show but one would assume it will take place later this year.
Alan’s Angle: A different approach to the show but maybe not the one it needed. Both teams have a crop of exciting young talent, established professionals and some of the best coaches in the world. I don’t think TUF is the right format for a gym vs. gym. Many times you see fighters from the same team competing against one another on TUF, often in the finale, so I am surprised the gyms both agreed to the show as this could create friction in their existing team. On the flip side the show will be an excellent way to showcase their talent and get the name of the gym out on national and international television.
