Ryan Curtis successful in pro debut

After a stellar amateur career Primal MMA’s Ryan Curtis (1-0), pictured top left, got his professional career off to a successful start last night in Manchester in the ICE FC promotion.

Curtis, a natural flyweight, stepped up to bantamweight to take on UK journeyman Reece Street who has a record of 0-6, according to Tapology.

The Owen Roddy trained fighter made quick work of Street and won via TKO in the first round. Curtis came out strong landing hard strikes before stuffing a takedown attempt and gaining mount and reigning down punches forcing the referee to step in and stop the fight.

It isn’t sure whether Curtis will stay at bantamweight or whether he will go between the two weights as finding fights can be difficult at flyweight. Irish MMA’s Andy Young has found it difficult getting matched at flyweight as has Neil Seery and Steve McCombe in the past.

However, with Curtis now in the professional ranks and Next Gen NI’s Arnaud Dos Santos making his pro debut at BAMMA tonight at flyweight there is two more competitors in the division in the UK/Irish scene.
