The already stacked UFC 189 card which takes place in Las Vegas on 11th July has received another great bout today with European Welterweight fighters Gunnar Nelson and John Hathaway set to lock horns.
Both Nelson and Hathaway will be looking to return to winning ways when they meet. Nelson was defeated for the first time in his career in his last fight against Rick Story. Hathaway suffered a nasty spinning back elbow TKO in his last fight against Dong Hyun Kim.
Tony’s Thought’s;
Its always difficult for me seeing two European fighters go at it but I really like this fight. Both will be looking to get back to the win column in style which will definitely bring out the best in them. Hathaway will have been out of the Octagon for 16 months by the time the fight takes place and this is a bit of a concern. Nelson will have his training partner McGregor getting into fighting shape and peaking at the same time as him which is another advantage for the Icelandic fighter. But one thing I love about Hathaway is his ability to prove people wrong and put on a show. Hathaway only has two losses on his record to Kim and Pyle which is nothing to be ashamed of and the winner in this one will almost certainly get themselves back into the pecking order in the 170lbs division.
At present UFC 189 looks like this, so lets pray the dreaded injury bug stays away from this one;
Jose Aldo Vs Conor McGregor – Featherweight Title Bout
Robbie Lawler Vs Rory MacDonald – Welterweight Title Bout
Dennis Bermudez Vs Jeremy Stephens
Brandon Thatch Vs Jordan Mein
Gunnar Nelson Vs John Hathaway
