Irish veteran and UFC flyweight Neil Seery (15-10) has been added to the UFC 189 card in Las Vegas, Nevada this July, a card famously being headlines by fellow Dubliner Conor McGregor. His opponent will be Louis Smolka (8-1), a fighter 12 years his junior.
Seery made his promotional debut just over a year ago as a late replacement against Brad Pickett and although he lost the fight he pushed the Englishman the distance and impressed a lot of people. Since then though Seery has won back to back fights against Phil Harris and Chris Beal and is 8-2 overall in MMA in his past ten fights.
Smolka also made his UFC debut last year and has also posted a 2-1 record inside the Octagon. He holds wins over Richie Vaculik and Alptekin Ozkilic and his lone loss was against former title challenger Chris Cariaso.
UFC 189 takes place on July 11th during ‘International Fight Week’ which will also see Team Republic of Ireland & Team Northern Ireland compete in the IMMAF world championships and Catherine Costigan (5-0) make her Invicta debut.
