International Fight Week has become a major event on the MMA calendar. The week long celebration of the sport hosted by the UFC features an array of activities including fan expos, concerts, pool parties, meet and greets, signings, and much more.
This year Invicta 13 will also happen in Vegas during International Fight Week. Headlined by Cyborg’s first foray into the featherweight division, the same weight class as Ronda Rousey, the all-female night of fights will take place the evening before UFC 189: Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor.
Last night it was officially announced that undefeated Irish atomweight Catherine Costigan (5-0) had signed with Invicta and the Limerick-based fighter is vying for a position to fight in Vegas on the Invicta 13 card.
“I want to fight on July 10th on the Invicta 13 card in Vegas in front of all the Irish fans who will be there already for UFC 189 the day after,” said Costigan following the announcement of her signing.
Over two thousand tickets for UFC 189 were bought from Ireland and there is expected to be a lot more over for fight week than that. Vegas is expected to turn green for the week and having a popular Irish fighter like Catherine Costigan on the card would make sense for Invicta.
The 35-year-old is excited about signing with the promotion and is aiming to capture the atomweight title by 2016.
“Invicta is the world stage and I am determined to stand out in the division. I’ll deliver for the ‘Alpha Force’ and take the atomweight title by 2016.”
