According to Conor McGregor himself he will face Diego Sanchez at UFC Mexico on November 15th. Sanchez was originally slated to meet Norman Parke at the event in what was one of the more publicised bouts on the card during the initial media tour for the UFC’s first appearance in Mexico.
McGregor tweeted the following and got the whole world of MMA in a stir:
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto then tweeted the following quote from Dana White regarding the situation:
Alan’s Angle: I am not sure what to believe. My first reaction was that the fight makes no sense at all, McGregor is on his path to featherweight glory and Parke is on the right track at lightweight. It made all the sense in the world for Parke to be fighting Sanchez next and not have McGregor step up a weight class out of nowhere.
But then I began to think about it, this is the UFC and strange things do happen. Similar to Anderson Silva stepping up weight classes from time to time, if McGregor done that right now and won at lightweight over a named opponent like Sanchez it would boost everything about him even more. The fight would also keep him active awaiting for the winner of either Aldo/Mendes or Swanson/Edgar. That would be my logic of the situation should it be true…I guess there is no smoke without fire, unless McGregor has just trolled the majority of MMA fans and media alike, to which I say ‘bravo McGregor, bravo!’
