After weeks of speculation as to whether it would happen one of the biggest European lightweight fights has today been made official. KSW has confirmed that its undefeated champion Mateusz Gamrot will clash UFC veteran of nine fights and one of Belfast’s favourite lightweights, Norman Parke, at KSW 39: Colosseum.
The event goes down on May 27th at Warsaw’s National Stadium and is already breaking MMA records with a 30,000 plus tickets sold already. Martin Lewandowski confirmed last week that the event was fast approaching 40,000 tickets sold, a landmark achievement the likes of which have not been seen since the UFC put on their event in Sweden that saw Alexander Gustafsson take on Anthony Johnson.
This will be the first time that Parke, The Ultimate Fighter winner, has fought for the KSW fight promotion. In his eleven-year Mixed Martial Arts tenure Parke holds wins over Colin Fletcher, Kazuki Tokudome, Naoyuki Kotani and Reza Madadi. His last two outings saw the Judo black belt practitioner outpoint both lightweights Andrew Fisher and Paul Redmond.
Mateusz Gamrot, a 26-year-old wrestling phenom is not only an undefeated professional, but he has also never lost a round via the judges’ scorecards. In 2015 Gamrot won the vacant KSW lightweight belt, beating the former M-1 champion Mansour Barnaoui. Four months later “Gamer” submitted Brazilian Renato Gomes in his first title defense.
