Former KSW middleweight champion Michal Materla (24-5) has put pen to paper on a new contract and will return at KSW 40 at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland on October 22nd.
The 33-year-old was last in action at KSW 36 almost a year ago where he finished Rousimar Palhares with a second round KO, this performance followed a first round stoppage win over multi KSW tournament winner Antoni Chmielewski.
Materla has been a staple of the KSW roster since 2006 and over the years he established himself as one of Europe’s best middleweights with wins over veterans like Kendall Grove, Rodney Wallace, Tomasz Drwal, Jay Silva, and James Zikic, to name just a few. He dropped the middleweight title to friend and fellow KSW legend Mamed Khalidov in 2015, in what was one of the most anticipated fights in European MMA history.
The year away from action has Materla charged and motivated to get back into the cage.
“I am happy to finally get back to what I do best, and that is fight,” stated Materla. “It has been almost a year since I defeated Palhares and I just want to get back in there and on October 22nd at KSW 40 in Dublin I get to do that. I am a very happy and motivated Michal Materla!”
Materla joins a star-studded KSW 40 line-up which has Mariusz Pudzianowski vs. James McSweeney in a heavyweight main event, the anticipated rematch between Mateusz Gamrot and Norman Parke in the co-main event, ‘The Violence Queen’ Ariane Lipski, Chris Fields, Maciej Jewtuszko, and many more to be announced for the card.
