KTMMA 2: A world cup of combat

UK upstart promotion KTMMA, in their inaugral event, introduced the UK to a new format in mixed martial arts competition. ‘Kick-Thai MMA’, in which the first round of every fight is stand-up only is set to hold its second event at the ILEC Conference Centre, Earls Court, London on Saturday November 22.

In the main event former ISKA kickboxing champion Tim ‘TNT’ Thomas of Bedfordshire joins London man Josh Palmer in taking on a South American challenge. Both come from a Muay Thai and Kickboxing background and bring a wealth of top-level striking experience with them.

Thomas, a veteran of the GLORY World Series kickboxing league, faces Paolo “Guerreiro” Dantas, a veteran of the Shooto organization. Dantas’s record includes a win over UFC veteran Jason Dent and going the distance with former UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao in their 2009 fight.

Palmer trains and fights out of the Urban Kings gym in Kings’ Cross, West London, recently used as a training venue by former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva when he visited England. He faces Joao Luiz Nogueira, who fights out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and represents the famous Team Nogueira, headed by the former PRIDE FC heavyweight champion and UFC interim heavyweight champion Rodrigo Nogueira.

Nogueira’s record includes a stack of wins over the UFC and DREAM veteran Willemy Freire plus several appearances for the highly-regarded Brazilian organization Jungle Fight, Shooto and the national-level Bitetti Combat promotion.
