It didn’t take the UFC long to re-book the highly anticipated Lightweight bout between Dustin Poirier and Joseph Duffy. The bout which was scrapped from UFC Dublin last weekend will take place at UFC 195 on January 2nd.
UFC 195 takes place in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and is headlined by a Welterweight Title bout between Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit.
Following the last minute withdrawal from the UFC Dublin main event, Dustin Poirier was offered a fight with Northern Ireland’s Norman Parke, however, Poirier declined the offer wanting to wait for the Duffy fight instead.
The UFC 195 card now includes the following bouts;
Robbie Lawler Vs Carlos Condit UFC Welterweight Title Bout
Andrei Arlovski Vs Stipe Miocic
Joseph Duffy Vs Dustin Poirier
Neil Magny Vs Stephen Thompson
Lorenz Larkin Vs Albert Tumenov
Drew Dober Vs Erik Koch
Edgar Garcia Vs Sheldon Westcott
Tony’s Thoughts:
Its great news for Duffy that this fight has been rescheduled and it proves that Poirier waiting for the bout was the right decision for him. A win for either of these guys will give them a great boost in the 155lbs division and Poirier taking a last minute fight against Parke would have done him no favours in the long term.
Duffy will have time to fully recover from the concussion he received and get right back into training for someone he has already spent at least 8 weeks focusing on.
Let’s not forget the last time Poirier fought in the MGM he was stopped by another Irishman in the first round.
