Last night in Las Vegas, Nevada Catherine Costigan (5-1) was making her Invicta FC debut. Unfortunately it wasn’t a successful one and she suffered her first career defeat.
The Limerick native was submitted by rear naked choke in the first round by Amber Brown (5-1). Costigan showed heart throughout the contest, but the pressure put on by Brown throughout was too much. Once the American got top control it seemed like she had too much for Costigan to fend off and she eventually gave up her back.
Costigan displayed her disappointment by posting the following message via her social media:
“All I can say is I’m truly sorry to everyone that stood with me. To my friends, family and nation. Especially all my coaches and my strength Dermot McGrath. Fighting is still the most honest thing in life I’ve ever done. I’ll never run from that.”
