Carano joins GSP, JCVD and Dave Bautista in Kickboxer remake

The Kickboxer remake has just received another injection of MMA talent as former women’s champion Gina Carano was today revealed to be joining the cast. It is said that she will play the role of a fight promoter.

Already cast in the movie is former UFC champ Georges St. Pierre, WWE superstar and one-time MMA fighter Dave Bautista and action movie legend Jean Claude Van Damme will be returning.

In the original JCVD starred as Kurt Sloane a kickboxer who went to learn Muay Thai from a traditional trainer in order to fight Tong Po, the who paralyzed his brother.

In this remake JCVD will play the part of the traditional trainer, Alain Moussi (X-Men, Pacific Rim) plays Kurt Sloane and Dave Bautista will play the villain Tong Po. We do not know what role GSP will play in the movie but there could be a chance that he play’s Sloane’s brother.

Kickboxer is directed by John Stockwell (Blue Crush, Into the Blue) and is slated for a late 2015 release.

Alan’s Angle: I learned a long time ago that it is not the actors to watch out for when anticipating a movie it is the director. Stockwell has not got a good resume when it comes to making movies but the premise of this movie very simple so it might be hard to mess this one up. My only fear is that it will be over the top cheesey trying to recapture what made 80’s action movies special. Looking forward to seeing Bautista kick ass as Tong Po though and lets hope that crazy drunken dance/fight scene is recreated.
