Canelo vs GGG ends in controversial draw

Canelo Álvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin, the boxing superfight entitled ‘Supremacy’ with all the marbles to play for ie the unified WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, Ring magazine, and lineal middleweight championship ended in an unsatisfaactory draw last night. The bout held at the T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip was scored a draw, with judges Dave Moretti scoring the fight 115–113 for Golovkin, Adalaide Byrd scoring it 118–110 for Álvarez, and Don Trella scoring it 114-all.

The base purses were somewhat smaller than those obtained by both Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. Canelo Álvarez took home a base purse of $5 million, Gennady Golovkin reportedly took home a smaller $3 million. Fans of the Mayweather vs McGgregor clash were out in force on social media deriding the Canelo vs GGG outcome as unsatisfactory but none were as disappointed as both men who put their heart and soul into each and every round in what effectively was a thrilling clash marred by inept judging at best.
