BEN ASKREN SIGNS WITH ONE FC

Former Bellator Welterweight Champion Ben Askren announced today that he has officially signed with Asian-based promotion ONE FC.

Speculation on Askren signing with ONE FC hit fever-pitch when it was reported that he had joined Evolve MMA – a Singapore-based fight team. It has now been confirmed that he has signed with the promotion in a deal that will keep in fighting in Asia for the next two years.

Askren – having been just released by Bellator – made his intentions known that he wanted to fight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Dana White had expressed interest in Askren in the past; but after a back-and-forth with Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney, regarding the signing of the former amateur-wrestling standout, White retracted his interest and advised Askren to sign with World Series of Fighting.

Instead, Askren has signed with ONE FC.

Speaking on The MMA Hour, he stated that his debut fight in the promotion should be announced by ONE FC officials soon, with early 2014 being likely.
