Bellator have done it again and announced a fight card top heavy with a few fights that nobody could have predicted.
Bellator 149, which takes place in Houston in February 2016 will feature a main event including Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock in what will be a third fight between the pair.
The co-main event will see two guys who earnt their fame in the backyard, Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson and his former bodyguard Dhafir Harris aka “Dada 5000”.
Tony’s Thoughts:
Just when you didn’t think Bellator could outdo themselves they announce these fights. I must admit at first look I am definitely in favour of the Shamrock/Gracie fight to the Kimbo/Dada fight.
I suppose they can play on the relationship of the two since Kimbo made his break into MMA and left behind his backyard routes and they will definitely be hoping this one stays on the feet, otherwise we could all be in for a long night. Kimbo’s name does seem to attract an audience also but I think this is probably the last time the promotion can get away with using him.
Shamrock and Gracie have a combined age of 99 which is kinda scary but it will be interesting to see how the third bout plays out between them and will definitely draw good numbers for the promotion which is the underlying factor in setting up this bout. What scares me somewhat is that Shamrock was submitted by Kimbo in his last bout who is not known for his ground game so he will definitely need to sharpen his BJJ ahead of this one.
