UFC Fight Night 118: Cerrone vs Till Main Card Breakdown

It’s fight week in Poland. While Polish promotion KSW are overseas in Dublin this week, UFC are on their turf in Gdansk. Here is the main card breakdown.

(Middleweight) Jonathan Wilson vs Oskar Piechota: We start off the main card with a former Cage Warriors alumnus making his debut. Piechota is fighting in his hometown and making his UFC debut. Currently he is 9 – 0 – 1 and always finishes in pretty quick time. Wilson desperately needs a win, when he arrived in the UFC he was 6 – 0 – 0 and was successful in his debut however he lost his last 2 bouts by TKO and decision respectively. He is less of an allrounder and is more known for knockouts so he’ll have to watch out for Piechota’s ground game.

(Light Heavyweight) Jan Blachowicz vs Devin Clark: Another Polish representative, former KSW Light Heavyweight Champion, Blachowicz needs a win. He has experience and a slight height and reach advantage. He lost his last 2 fights and since coming to UFC he is 2 – 4 – 0. Clark is a prospect who came from Dana White – Looking for a fight. He lost his debut but is currently on a 2 fight win streak and like Blachowicz is an all rounder. One would worry for the future of Blachowicz in the UFC if he can’t get a win here.

(Women’s Strawweight) Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs Jodie Esquibel: This one should go to a decision. Both want to make an impression. Aside from the fact that Kowalkiewicz will have the home support, she lost her last 2 fights against current strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Claudia Gadelha respectively. Experience and a slight size advantage are on her side. Esquibel has a tall order ahead of her as she makes her UFC debut and is stepping into the Octagon with the #2 strawweight in the promotion. She’s had success in Invicta but only has 8 fights under her belt. That been said, this is the perfect opportunity to make an impression.

(Main Event) (Welterweight) Donald Cerrone vs Darren Till: Main Event time. Cowboy Cerrone is one of the most active and popular fighters on the UFC roster. He has 2 more fights on his contract before it expires and needs a win, losing his last 2 fights. Till is a promising Team Kaobon trained welterweight, originally from Liverpool but made his name in Brazil. He is currently 15 – 0 – 1 and known for his knockouts while Cerrone is known for his submissions. This is a good opportunity for Till to establish himself as a welterweight contender but he has an uphill struggle as Cerrone as an unreal amount of experience.
