James Gallagher (1-0) made up for a disappointing few months on Saturday night in Cork as he made a successful start to life as a pro.
The highly touted prospect was expecting to go the distance at the IMMAF amateur world championships in Vegas this past summer but after winning his opening fight he was forced to withdraw through injury. He had been part of the ‘MAC Mansion’ crew over in Sin City to help Conor McGregor prepare for UFC 189.
The disappointment of not having the chance to be crowned ‘world champion’ was quickly put in the rear view mirror as he was announced to be fighting at the monumental BAMMA 22 card in Dublin’s 3Arena, the same venue where his teammate Conor McGregor blew the roof off around 12 months prior. But once again he was forced to withdraw due to a minor injury.
Now less than a month later he can finally move past the recent setbacks and look forward to the future. It didn’t take him long to get the win and he had great composure to sink in the rear-naked choke on opponent Denis Ahern less than two minutes into the first round of their fight at Cage Kings 3.
James will be looking to build on this victory soon when he takes on Decky McAleenan at Chaos FC 15 in Ireland on December 5th.
