Shaun Taylor: ‘It’s about time I was recognised for what I’m worth.’

Scotland’s Shaun ‘The disgrace’ Taylor(8-1) steps into the Bellator cage this Saturday night 23rd February to face Will ‘f*ckin’ Fleury(4-1) in a heated middleweight matchup. Fleury spoke to a week ago, stoking the flames for the fight calling Taylor “Basically a fat Welterweight with no reach.”

While Taylor has only competed once in the last 4 years, his record at 8-1 is the envy of many. His only loss coming at the hands of UFC welterweight Leon Edwards. Taylor appears determined and primed to take the fight to Fleury in his backyard. This appears to be another excellent fight made by Jude Samuel. reached out to Taylor with a few questions during fight week. The Kilmarnock man took time out of his fight week schedule to fire back at Fleury. Taylor, a man of few words, didn’t miss in his response!

Prelims will be available via the Bellator app and the main card will be televised live on Skysports.

Will Fleury brought the spice calling you ‘basically a fat welterweight with no reach’ in his recent interview with WHOATV. What is your message to him?

“Captain obvious strikes again. Of course I’m a fat welterweight with no reach. I could make welterweight again but why would I when I can fight him for an easy win? Just because he tries to say clever things, that, to be honest are very unoriginal doesn’t mean he’s actually worth listening to.”

February 23rd sees you make your Bellator debut, how does it feel to be part of the big show?

“It’s about time I was recognised for what I’m worth.”

Despite an excellent record, you have not competed consistently for a couple of years now; do you think the time away from the cage will affect you positively or negatively?

“I actually competed at the end of 2017 beating a well rated Frenchman and subbing him in the second round.”

Where do you see the fight being won and lost against Fleury?

“The only way I lose is if I f*ck up or for some miracle he makes it to the decision and home judge bias will kick in.”

Outside of your own fight, which fight on the card excites you the most and why?

“Just mine. I should be the main event.”

What are your plans after the Fleury fight?

“Eat cake. Then bring Bellator to Scotland with force. Should Bellator choose to come to Scotland they have access to higher level MMA, the biggest gym with the most and the best in signed fighters and a passionate crowd.”
