Miesha Tate scored her fourth straight UFC win on Saturday night and in doing so earned herself a third crack at rival Ronda Rousey, presuming that the UFC champ wins her fight this weekend against Bethe Correia. After all she is a massive 1/12 favourite in the bookies.
Some people are rolling their eyes at the idea of a third fight between Tate and Rousey but when you think about it there is no one else, yet. The timing of this fight is perfect. Once again assuming that Rousey beats Correia we can then assume that she will fight Tate around December possibly at the big annual end of the year card.
With the rest of the year sewn up for Rousey this offers a chance for Cyborg to prepare herself in order to make 140lbs, or even 135lbs, and at the least it gives fighters like Holly Holm, Amanda Nunes, Jessica Eye and a few more of the top ranked fighters to build themselves up more.
This is not forgetting that Tate vs. Rousey is still a damn good fight to entertain ourselves with in the mean time. The build-up will be good because they hate each other, therefore the Embedded will be enticing and the end result will be people tuning in to watch the fight. In regards to the fight itself I believe Rousey would win but that is not forgetting that Tate has been arguably her toughest opponent to date having being the only fighter to push her outside the first round.
It is a win-win for everyone having Tate be the number one contender and hopefully this might push the UFC even more into making the fight we all want to see Rousey vs. Cyborg come into fruition. By the time Rousey fights Tate it will be her 13th professional fight and three of them will have been against the same opponent, that’s almost a quarter of her fights. If that isn’t enough of a reason alone to push for Rousey vs. Cyborg then I don’t know what is.
