McCann, Wood and Amirkhani bouts agreed for fight island

After fight island was announced earlier this week, new fights have been flying out of the UFC. Three of the latest to be agreed to include three of Europe’s biggest names.

Two days ago it was reported that ‘Meatball’ Molly McCann had been booked to fight Taila Santos on July 15th’s card on fight island. Since losing her UFC debut in Liverpool, the City’s McCann has put together three consecutive decision wins in the women’s flyweight division. Her opponent Santos came into the UFC off the back of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series with a record of 15-0. Following cancelled bouts against Ashlee Evans-Smith, Ariane Carnelossi and Gillian Robertson, this will be Santos’ first fight since losing her debut in February of last year.

In recent hours, sources close to the fight have confirmed to whoatv that a bout between Nathaniel ‘The Prospect’ Wood and Umar Nurmagomedov has been agreed to. The fight was originally reported on the ‘Mo Hosani 360’ podcast and will take place on the July 25th card which is believed to be headlined by a middleweight bout between Robert Whittaker and Darren Till.

Umar, cousin to UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, will be making his debut since signing for the UFC in February with lots of promise. Wood, on the other hand, will be hoping to bounce back from his first loss in the UFC to John Dodson in February. Wood will be hoping to regain his momentum he built up by winning eight back-to-back fights by beating a fellow prospect in Nurmagomedov who brings with him an undefeated record of 12-0.

Finally, following an initial report from Sportti, sources have confirmed to MMAJunkie that a fight between Finland’s Makwan Amirkhani and Scotland’s Danny Henry has been made for UFC 251 on fight island. Amirkhani comes into the bout following his loss at UFC 244 in November to Shane Burgos. Henry, on the other hand, will be making his first UFC appearance since losing his third UFC bout to Dan Ige at UFC London in March of last year.
