Sources close to the fight have confirmed to WhoaTV that a bout between England’s Lerone Murphy and Brazil’s Ricardo Ramos has been agreed to. The fight will take place on the 15th June on the second event hosted on fight island.
This card, as reported yesterday, will be headlined by a featherweight contest between Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige. The co-main event will see Frankie Edgar move down to bantamweight to take on Pedro Munhoz after the fight was moved from the UFC 251 card.
Lerone Murphy, going into UFC London, was one of several fighters that lots of people had their eye on. After making his UFC debut on short notice at UFC 242, making this his second trip to Yas Island, UK fans were anticipating a big performance in London. This hype built once Murphy earned a draw in a fight many thought he won against Khabib’s teammate Zubaira Tukhugov who came into the fight with a record of 18-4 compared to Murphy’s 8-0.
After missing out on the opportunity to compete in front of the UK fans in London, Murphy has been given another sizeable task put in front of him in Ricardo Ramos. With a UFC record of 5-1 and on back-to-back wins, both fighters have lots of momentum and potential coming into this clash. With wins against Eduardo Garagorri, Journey Newson and Alemann Zahabi, Ramos will be a tough test for Murphy that could see one emerge as a top prospect at 145 pounds.
