Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, father and coach to UFC Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has died at age 57. After being in serious condition since April, Abdulmanap tested positive for Covid-19, suffering a heart attack shortly after. Despite waking from a medically induced coma, news has recently broken that he passed away due to the disease.
Abdulmanap was an incredibly well-respected coach, especially in Dagestan, due to his wrestling and samba credentials. He was only able to corner one of his son’s fights at UFC 242 due to visa issues. This event saw his son unify the 155-pound division against Dustin Poirier in Saudi Arabia.
It is clear to see how much his father has impacted the undefeated champion by his reaction whenever he is speaking about him. Tributes to Abdulmanap have been coming in as the MMA world supports the Nurmagomedov family and their friends.
