Key Themes of UFC FIGHT NIGHT: LEWIS vs. DAUKAUS

UFC finishes 2021 at the APEX, with two top-10 heavyweights headlining the final card of the year.

Heavyweight ending to 2021

The heavyweight division is one of the most entertaining divisions in the UFC. No.3 ranked Derrick ‘The Black Beast’ Lewis coming up against no. 7 ranked Chris Daukaus in an exciting bout to round off a fantastic year of UFC.

The Black Beast is one of the most dangerous fighters in the heavyweight division with 12 stoppage victories. Lewis is set to make his 23rd UFC heavyweight appearance. This is the most in the heavyweight division and the second most fights in the active roster.

Chris Daukaus made his UFC debut in August 2020 and only recently quit his full-time job as a police officer for the City of Philadelphia. Daukaus’ official last day as a police officer was December 1st, 2021. Thus far, undefeated in the Octagon, Chris has an impressive four-fight UFC winning streak and has won 11 of his 12 career victories by stoppage.

Timeless Wonderboy

The main card also sees two top-10 welterweights face off. Former two-time welterweight title challenger Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson comes up against Belal ‘Remember The Name’ Muhammad.

The veteran Wonderboy turns 39 in February and has been fighting inside the Octagon for nearly a decade. Thompson is currently ranked no. 5 in the welterweight division and has won two of his last three fights. Muhammad is 9-1 in his past 10 fights dating back to February 2017. His current 6 fight unbeaten streak at welterweight is the third-longest active streak in the division.

This bout will be Muhammad’s fourth UFC appearance of 2021 and Thompson’s second.

Strawweight-Overkill

Another electrifying matchup comes at women’s strawweight, as Angela ‘Overkill’ Hill steps in at short notice to take on dangerous striker Amanda ‘Amandinha’ Lemos.

Having started her UFC career at bantamweight, Lemos is currently undefeated having moved down to strawweight. Lemos holds an impressive trio of first-round finishes and a decision victory over Japanese veteran Mizuki Inoue at strawweight. Hill enters the Octagon for the third time this year with 1 loss and a dominant decision over Ashley Yoder.
