Following a blitz of fight announcements, all three UFC fight night events on fight island have been revealed in full. The second of these fight nights will take place on Saturday, July 18th. This was discussed indepth on today’s #WHOACAST.
In the main event, the flyweight belt is on the line when Deiveson Figueiredo rematches Joseph Benavidez. Figueiredo TKO’d Benavidez in their first fight back in February but due to Deiveson missing weight, he was not eligible to win the vacant belt. This rematch could be Benavidez’s last chance at finally getting his hands on flyweight gold.
In the co-main event, Jack Hermansson will take on Kelvin Gastelum in a highly ranked middleweight contest with both coming in off of losses. Sweden’s Hermansson built up a 4-fight win streak before being stopped in the second round by Jared Cannonier. Gastelum is on back-to-back losses for the first time in his career after losing the fight of the year for 2019 to Israel Adesanya and then losing a decision to Darren Till in November.
The rest of the main card is made up of Marc ‘The Bonecrusher’ Diakiese who is on a 2-fight win streak after decision wins against Joseph Duffy and Lando Vannata. He will take on 7-1 Rafael Fiziev following an opponent change. The main card will be opened by a ranked flyweight contest between Alexandre Pantoja and Askar Askarov which could see a contender emerge for the newly crowned champion in the main event.
In the prelims, three UK fighters will look to make their mark on fight island when Ireland’s Joe Duffy, England’s Nad Narimani and Wales’ Brett Johns all return to the octagon. In the featured prelim, undefeated light-heavyweight Roman Dolidze will make his UFC debut after racking up a record of 6-0 with all wins via finish. He will meet Russia’s Khadis Ibragimov who has lost both of his fights in the UFC and has a record of 8-2.
