GLORY pitches up in Amsterdam on December 4th for the first time in the companies’ whirlwind history. A card topped by two of its native strikers, Rico Verhoeven and Nieky Holzken who are set to defend their newly acquired titles. Holzken has repeatedly called on Paul Daley to step up and face him a task which Daley seems to relish.
Whilst eager to grasp the challenge Daley is keen to also show respect “He’s pound for pound the best kickboxer on the planet. I like a challenge and love to be the underdog.”
Both Holzken and Daley have their similarities both are fearless, both rise to any opponent that issues a challenge but Daley is keen to point out they are dissimilar in what really will be the key ingredient in their meeting, if it does eventually occur. “I knock out a fighter in thirty seconds. It took three rounds for him to earn a decision.”
With Holzken’s opponent yet to be confirmed one thing is for certain this is a fight not just Daley is keen on but also his UK following too which will redress the balance of Holzken’s homefield advantage “I hope Bellator and GLORY make the fight. I want the chance to fight the best and be GLORY champion. I have a big UK following who are already messaging me about tickets and planning travel.”
The biggest obstacle in the way of this bout happening on December 4th is the expected showdown between Holzken and winner of the GLORY 25 four-man welterweight “contender” tournament taking place on November 6 in Monza, Italy. As at the time of writing this contenders have not yet been announced nor has Daley put pen to paper regarding this card.
One thing is for certain if this is a match up that is eventually settled on by both promotions a clear winner will be the fans of both fighters before a punch is thrown.
