Ireland’s own Leah McCourt is set the make history this weekend when she takes on Judith Ruis in the headline bout for Bellator Dublin.
There has never been a main European MMA event that has been headlined by a female bout. However, that changes after tomorrow.
McCourt vs Ruis was bumped up to the main event spot after James Gallagher pulled out of his bout with Cal Ellenor after suffering from a back injury a couple of weeks ago.
Being an Irish star and rising prospect, losing Straight Blast Gym’s Gallagher was a big hit for the card.
With the loss of MMA veteran and local lad Peter Queally, followed by Gallagher, it seemed the card was hitting a downward slope for the Irish fans.
However, it was fan favourite McCourt who stepped up to offer an enticing main event for her home country.
McCourt spoke to us earlier today about the pressure of this match-up, the driving people behind her success and making European history.
McCourt’s story is one that is inspiring and deserves all the coverage it can get in the build up to this fight.
Take a look below at what she had to say.
