This coming weekend pits some huge cards across the International MMA scene. From #UFC198 which takes place in Curitiba, Brazil, to #BAMMA25 which takes place in Birmingham, England, fight fans across the world are in for a real treat.
But what fights should you be watching? Well we have tried to make things slightly easier for you in typical #WHOATV and devised a list of five fight you certainly shouldn’t miss. The rest is up to you;
Tom Duquesnoy Vs Shay Walsh – BAMMA 25
This fight is a massive fight on the European scene and brings together two weight classes, Bantamweight and Featherweight. Duquesnoy is one of the poster boys for BAMMA and gets a shot at becoming the promotions first two weight World Champion, but in his way is a super tough veteran in Shay Walsh. Duquesnoy dipped his toes into the 135lbs division in his last bout and stunned Damien Rooney with a vicious knockout win, whilst Walsh finally earned the Title he has been longing for in a superb performance against Ed Arthur. This fight really gives Walsh the opportunity to prove his status as “The man at 135lbs”, while Duquesnoy will be desperate to solidify himself as one of the biggest names on the European scene. An intriguing bout with so many variables to it that it really makes this bout one to watch this weekend.
Cameron Else Vs Ed Arthur – BAMMA 25
I don’t know what it is about this fight that is really intriguing me but I truly think this one could steal the show. I have never been let down by an Ed Arthur fight and Cameron Else just seems so mentally prepared for this fight that I think when the two clash its going really bring out the best in both men. These two are names that will be around the #UKMMA for a long time in my opinion and whilst the winner of this one will be looking to get positioned for a future Title shot, you can guarantee the loser will always be on the cusp of Title contention. Make sure that if you are attending #BAMMA25 you do not miss this one!
Phil Davis Vs Muhammed Lawal – Bellator 154
Two super high calibre wrestlers both get the opportunity to push themselves into Title shot contention with a win in this bout and I think that its really key for either man to show their handy work in this one to path a way to victory. Phil Davis has some phenomenal MMA wrestling, whilst Lawal has really shown improvements in his striking which I think will be the biggest factor in this fight. If Davis is able to take Lawal down you would favour him on the mat but I think that Lawal will be able to mitigate the takedown offence from Davis and look to land some big shots. On paper it pits two wrestlers against each other but I suspect we won’t be seeing a grappling match on fight night.
Anderson Silva Vs Uriah Hall – UFC 198
I’m really hoping this one doesn’t turn out to not be able to live up to the hype and I just think we are really going to get to see the “Anderson Silva of old” in this bout. Silva has something to prove after his last bout with Bisping and whilst Hall will come in the younger and more athletic of the two, I think Silva will be able to provide a magical moment in front of his home crowd. The pair have a very intriguing style which is similar in many ways but I also think experience will play a part in this one and that Anderson will get back into the win column, something he hasn’t been able to do since he last fought in Brazil in October 2012.
John Lineker Vs Rob Font – UFC 198
This is a cracking fight in the Bantamweight division and Rob Font has a great opportunity to make a big name for himself against Lineker. Lineker has bounce back to his devastating ways and scored three wins on the bounce, including a sensational fight of the night in his last fight against Francisco Rivera. Font is riding an 11 fight win streak which includes 2 wins under the UFC banner and will be hugely confident going into this one. This fight is really though to pick a winner and looking at differences the only real factor you can bring to the table is the fact that this fight is taking place in Brazil, which will naturally favour Lineker. Regardless of that I think that this fight could potentially steal the show which is a pretty bold statement on a card so stacked but I think these Bantamweights will bring it!
