It had been widely reported for the last few weeks that the main event for KSW 47 was a heavyweight clash between former world’s strongest man, Mariusz Pudzianowski, and 2008 Olympic weightlifting gold medalist, Szymon Kolecki. However, KSW sent out a surprise announcement today that the new main event is a superfight between KSW Heavyweight Champion, Phil De Fries, and KSW Light Heavyweight Champion, Tomasz Narkun. The bout will be contested at heavyweight and De Fries’ title will be on the line.
De Fries (16-6), who is riding a 4 fight win streak, has shown the best performances of his career so far in KSW and will be looking to knock off another of the promotion’s biggest names while defending his title for the second time. The Englishman has won his first two fights in the promotion, defeating Michal Andryszak by TKO to claim the title and then defending it by submitting Karol Bedorf in London.
Tomasz Narkun (16-2) will be competing in another super fight for the promotion after defeating former KSW Middleweight Champion and Polish MMA icon, Mamed Khalidov, twice in his last 2 fights. Khalidov subsequently retired from the sport after the second defeat. Narkun has held the KSW Light Heavyweight title since 2015 and has finished his opponent in 15 of his 16 wins. He will now be looking to become a double champion by adding the heavyweight title to his mantle.
The card also features a mouth watering welterweight clash between former KSW Welterweight Champions Borys Mankowski and Dricus Du Plessis as well as the return of former professional boxer and media member, Karolina Owczarz. The card takes place from the Atlas Arena in Lodz, Poland on Saturday 23rd March and will be available for purchase at KSWTV.com
