MMA veteran Brandon ‘The Truth’ Vera (13-7) and undefeated UK heavyweight Chi Lewis Parry (6-0, 1 NC) will finally get to step into the cage to face one another.
In a press release yesterday by ONE Championship they announced that the two will do battle for the promotion’s inaugural heavyweight title at the Mall of Asia, Manila on December 11th.
CEO of ONE Championship, Victor Cui stated, “Each year in Manila, we try to outdo ourselves by putting on increasingly exciting fight cards for passionate fight fans in the Philippines. In addition to the already tremendous main event bout between heavyweights Brandon Vera and Chi Lewis Parry, we are bringing back fan favorites Ana Julaton, Mark Striegl and Ruel Catalan. Get ready for an amazing night of world-class MMA action!”
So far 38-year-old Vera has made just one appearance for the promotion, a first round TKO win over Igor Subora almost a year ago. The UFC veteran took advantage of the rules set and utilized soccer kicks in getting the win.
Parry has been involved in two fights for ONE both against Alain Ngalani in 2014. The first ended a no-contest but a couple of months later Parry rectified things and scored a first round TKO.
Alan’s Angle: Top fight to make and it seems Parry is finally getting his wish months after using #WHOATV as the outlet to callout Vera (see below). I hope this fight means both men stay active in MMA. Vera will not have fought in a year and Parry will not have fought in nearly 18 months by the time this fight rolls around, which is an awful shame as they are both exciting.
