Bellator London sees the return of the curse

Bellator MMA today confirmed that Leah “The Curse” McCourt (4-1) will join the main card of Bellator London: Gallagher vs, Ellenor, where she will take on New Zealand-born Janay “Hollowpoint” Harding (5-4) in an unmissable featherweight bout on the main card at The SSE Arena, Wembley on Saturday, May 16.

The main card is already taking shape, following the announcement of the highly anticipated bantamweight main event between Leah’s fellow countryman, James “The Strabanimal” Gallagher, and his rival Cal “Pacino” Ellenor from Sunderland. Meanwhile, fan favourite Fabian “The Assassin” Edwards and Dutch fighter Costello “The Spaniard” van Steenis will face off in a middleweight co-main event bout and ex-rugby star James Haskell will make his professional MMA debut, with his opponent set to be announced in the coming weeks.

Tickets for Bellator London: Gallagher vs. Ellenor are on general sale now, and can be purchased online at ssearena.co.uk,  www.axs.com/uk or ticketmaster.co.uk.

The event will air LIVE at 10 p.m. BST on Channel 5 in the UK. In the U.S., the event will be streamed live on Bellator MMA’s YouTube Channel at 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT.

Leah McCourt heads to London off the back of her historic main event victory over Germany’s Judith Ruis at Bellator Dublin: McCourt vs. Ruis on February 22. In the first ever women’s bout to headline a Bellator European Fight Series card, McCourt won by unanimous decision after an impressive escape from an arm bar. Her daughter Isabella joined her in the cage to celebrate in a touching display. Training at SBG Charlestown under the guidance of her coach Owen Roddy, McCourt’s rapid rise towards the top of Bellator’s competitive women’s featherweight division is being followed with great excitement by MMA fans everywhere.

25-year-old Janay Harding will be doing everything she can to stop McCourt in her tracks. Born in New Zealand and based in Australia, Harding has already claimed a victory over fellow SBG product Sinead Kavanagh back in October 2018. Harding sets out to claim her second win over an SBG fighter off the back of a tough TKO at the hands of Amanda Bell at Bellator 233: Salter vs. van Steenis in the U.S. last November. She will be looking to rediscover her winning ways in front of a fiery Wembley crowd.

With further bouts set to be announced in the coming weeks, fans can look forward to another stacked card and an unforgettable night of elite MMA action in London, following two successful events in the English capital in 2019.
