Pro-wrestler and MMA fighter Bobby Lashley (10-2) has signed to fight at Bellator 123 on September 5th. This will mark his Bellator debut after fighting for a number of promotions around the world including SFL, Shark Fights, Strikeforce, Titan FC and MFC.
The 38-year-old competed three times in 2013, winning all three fights against opponents with a combined record of 25-14 (according to Sherdog). His last defeat was at the hands of MMA veteran James Thompson in SFL in 2012, his only previous loss was to former UFC fighter Chad Griggs.
Since his last appearance in MMA he joined back up with American pro-wrestling promotion TNA – Total Nonstop Action and has become their heavyweight champ.
His opponent at Bellator 123 will be Josh Burns (8-7), a fighter currently 0-4 in Bellator and who is 3-7 in his last ten outings. Other notable fights on the card are Pat Curran vs. Patricio Freire, Cheick Kongo vs. Lavar Johnson and King Mo vs. Tom DeBlass.
Alan’s Angle: Given the relationship between TNA, Bellator and Spike this comes as no surprise. It also fits hand in hand was Bellator are out to achieve since their re-shuffling of executives and acquisition of former Strikeforce chief Scott Coker. Roll on some more attractions I say!
