Ariel Helwani had Jon Jones’ manager Malki Kawa on The MMA Hour yesterday to discuss everything that has happened recently with Jon Jones and what the future may hold for the disgraced former champ after his alleged hit and run and everything that surrounded the recent incident.
When asked whether he was surprised that the UFC stripped Jon of the title.
“I was very surprised. I did not think they would do that,” Kawa said. “Jon Jones won that belt inside the Octagon. Nobody beat him for the belt, right? That’s just one case in itself. On the other hand we are jumping to a lot of conclusions, we haven’t let things play out, he hasn’t had his day in court and I don’t think it is ok to just hand punishments out. But I do definitely understand where the UFC and sponsors and everyone is coming from.”
When asked whether if he is sure that Jones will return he expressed his uncertainty.
“No, I don’t know that for sure. Could very well be that last time we’ve seen Jon Jones in the Octagon. I think Jon Jones is gonna focus on Jon Jones. I think that he going to take the time to do whatever he’s gotta do. And if this is the last time we’ve seen him fight then it is the last time we’ve seen him fight.”
Alan’s Angle: Jon Jones will definitely return in my opinion. I see no reason why he wouldn’t. Yes he is going through a tough time and will need to take a sabbatical from everything MMA. Time heals everything and that is all it will take for things to get back on track for Jones.
