WHOA TV UFC FIGHT NIGHT POIRIER VS HOOKER PREDICTIONS

UFC FIGHT NIGHT ON ESPN®: POIRIER vs HOOKER takes place tonight in Las Vegas at the UFC APEX.

The preliminary bouts will be live from 5PM ET and will be available on ESPN, or if you are based in the UK, the prelims will kick off around 10PM BST and will be available on BT Sport.

Tonight’s UFC fight night card sees two of the lightweight divisions top contenders battle it out, as the No. 3 ranked Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier (25-6) meets the No. 5 ranked Dan ‘The Hangman’ Hooker (20-8).

Both these guys will be looking to put themselves into the running for the No. 1 contenders spot, to face the winner of the current UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov vs the interim title holder Justin Gaethje.

Poirier’s last fight was for the title against the ever-dominant Nurmagomedov and despite this fight not going his way, ‘The Diamond’ was riding a 6-fight undefeated streak, with impressive victories over Max Holloway, Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje.

His week has already got off to a great start and he will be looking to use this to continue his positive form and get back into the win column tonight.

Earlier this week, Poirier was named the inaugural recipient of the Forrest Griffin Community Award for recognition of his honourable hard work outside of the cage.

In 2018, Poirier and his wife, Jolie, established The Good Fight Foundation. A charity set up to help those in need and to change the world by doing positive things in the community.

We fight to change the world by doing good. A place where athletes use their platforms for something bigger. The Good Fight Foundation is committed and true to helping those in need.‘ – The Good Fight Foundation.

The New-Zealand mixed martial artist, Hooker, is coming into this fight riding a 3-fight win streak, with wins over Paul Felder, Al Iaquinta and James Vick.

Although this is not his first main event bout, this is no doubt the biggest fight of his career, if he picks up the win, he will be looking to challenge for the title to close off 2020.

Hooker fights out of City Kickboxing in Auckland, New Zealand under head coach Eugene Bareman, training with the likes of the reigning UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and the current UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.

Hooker will be hoping to utilise his height and reach advantage over the dangerous Poirier tonight and will be looking to become City Kickboxing’s third UFC world champion in the near future.

In a fight where two top-level strikers will be sure to trade in the centre of the octagon, this is one main event you do not want to miss.

In tonight’s co-main event, two welterweight hopefuls meet, when the entertaining ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry (13-6) takes on the submission specialist Mickey Gall (6-2).

There is a lot on the line in this match-up as both fighters will be looking to break into the UFC’s top 15 welterweight rankings. However, the loser could face being cut from the promotion.

The fight will test Perry’s power and elite striking, against Gall’s range and his top-level grappling.

A Mike Perry bout usually sees some form of bonus given to either fighter and he holds solid victories over Alex Oliveira, Paul Felder and Jake Ellenberger.

All of Perry’s finishes come via KO/TKO and the fan-favourite will be looking to add another highlight reel finish to his record tonight.

However, Gall is one who is known to cause an upset, with victories over the former WWE star Phil Brooks/CM Punk in his debut, then following this up with a win over the talented wonder kid ‘Super’ Sage Northcutt.

Unlike Perry, all of Gall’s finishes come via submission and the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blackbelt will be looking to become the second man ever to submit Perry.

In another bout that is sure to deliver fireworks, the winner of this fight will look to climb the welterweight rankings in the near future.
