The UFC returns to our screens tonight for what is another fight night event in Las Vegas at UFC Apex.
UFC FIGHT NIGHT ON ESPN®: EYE VS. CALVILLO will be the first of three cards taking place at the UFC Apex in June 2020, with the next events on the 20th and 27th.
]The preliminary bouts will be live from 6PM ET and will be available on ESPN, or if you are based in the UK, the prelims will kick off around 11PM BST and will be available on BT Sport.
Tonight’s card is headlined by the No.1 ranked women’s flyweight contender, Jessica Eye (15-7), as she welcomes the No.10 ranked women’s strawweight, Cynthia Calvillo (8-1-1), to the flyweight division.
Both fighters have octagon experience with UFC champion’s and the winner of this bout will surely be looking next in line to face the current flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko.
Eye is the more experienced fighter of the two and is coming off a dominant win against Viviane Araújo. However, with only one defeat on her record, the submission specialist Calvillo will be looking to cause an upset on her debut and mark herself as one of the most dangerous female fighters in the UFC.
Eye missed weight by a ¼ pound last night, weighing in just over the limit at 126.25lbs. However, Calvillo, just made this weighing in at 126lbs.
In the co-main event, we can expect fireworks when the two middleweight’s Marvin Vettori (14-4-1) and Karl Roberson (9-2) are finally able to settle their grudge match, which was originally due to take place on the 14thof May 2020.
The fight was first cancelled when Roberson fell ill after his weight cut and was forced to withdraw from the fight. This led to a clash between the pair of fighters in the hotel lobby shortly after the weigh-ins event.
Once more, Roberson failed to make weight at yesterday’s event, coming in at 190.5lbs, 4.5lbs over the 185lbs limit. However, Vettori was on the mark yet again, weighing in at the max middleweight limit of 186lbs.
Both are looking to break into the UFC’s top 15 middleweight rankings in 2020 and this may be the fight that gets them there. Each fighter is currently on a two-fight win streak and will be looking to put the other away tonight, in a match where bad blood will be spilled.
