UFC on FOX: Johnson vs Reis Main Card Breakdown

What promises to be a history making night with this been the first ever time UFC have held an event in Missouri or even in Kansas, we take a look at things to come. Here is the main card breakdown:

(Featherweight) Jeremy Stephens vs Renato Moicano: We start off the main card with a veteran vs a relative newcomer. Jeremy Stephens will be fighting in the UFC for 10 years next month, and in that decade he has had 3 knockout of the nights and 3 fight of the nights. A KO specialist, his record currently stands at 25 – 13 – 0 with 16 of those 25 wins being KO, he also holds victories over former lightweight champion Raefael Dos Anjos, Marcus Davis and former bantamweight champion Renan Barao, and he’s only 30. Moicano, who is 3 years younger is technically undefeated, his record stands at 10 – 0 – 1, he has fought twice in the UFC and won both, he is also a former interim Jungle Fight Featherweight Champion, unfortunately, he is injury prone and he would’ve had more than 2 fights but what can you do. Tonight, he has a big challenge ahead and a win here could really get people talking about him.

(Middleweight) Ronaldo Souza vs Robert Whittaker: Next, we have another David vs Goliath battle, Whittaker is of Samoan descent, is a former SFA Welterweight champion and Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes welterweight winner. He has a record of 17 – 4 – 0 and holds victories over Rafael Natal, Uriah Hall and Derek Brunson and is currently on 6 fight win streak. However, his opponent is a UFC veteran. Souza is a former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion, and one of the best grapplers in the division. He holds victories over Belfort, Boetsch, Mousasi, Robbie Lawler, the list goes on; he has a record of 24 – 4 – 0 and has fought all over the world. This will easily be the biggest task Whittaker has ever faced, so he better bring his A-game.

(Women’s Strawweight) Rose Namajunas vs Michelle Waterson: At UFC 211, the belt will be defended, but who will the winner face? Could it be one of these 2 women? Probably. Namajunas is 5 – 3 – 0, with only 8 fights to her name, 4 of her fights have been given 2 submission of the nights, 1 performance and 1 fight of the night. Waterson, who more seasoned than her opponent has a record of 14 – 4 – 0 and is a former Invicta Atomweight champion and a submission specialist. This could very well be fight of the night.

(Main Event) (UFC Flyweight Championship) Demetrious Johnson(c) vs Wilson Reis: Last but by no means the least. Orignally the main event was meant to be Renan Barao vs Doo Ho Choi but Choi declined the bout and there now set to face at another event. Johnson and Reis was scheduled for UFC 201, but Johnson pulled out due to an injury. Wilson Reis has a record of 22 – 6 – 0 and is the only ever EliteXC Bantamweight Champion. He has an extensive background in Jiu-Jitsu and #3 in the UFC flyweight rankings. His opponent however is the #1 pound for pound fighter in all of MMA. It’s suprising this fight is not on a UFC numbered event but that been said Johnson’ record stands at 25 – 2 – 1, if he wins tonight he will hold the record for most successful title defences and has a record for most takedowns in one fight, scoring 10 takedowns in 3 separate fights. His quick elusive speed for striking and takedowns; the man is a prodigy in the sport and in 10 years when are having conversations about who is the greatest MMA fighter of all time, you would be an idiot not to mention his name. If Reis can pick up a win here, he will stun the MMA world.
