UFC Fight Night Singapore: Holm vs Correia Main Card Breakdown

So this Saturday will mark the second time UFC have appeared in Singapore in almost 3 and a half years, and what a card it should be. Here is the main card breakdown.

As always, card subject to change.

(Welterweight) Tarec Saffiedine vs Rafael Dos Anjos: We start off the main card with 2 former champions. Former lightweight champion Dos Anjos is making his welterweight debut. Coming off the back of 2 losses, losing the belt to Eddie Alvarez at International fight week last year and then had a close battle with Tony Ferguson last November. Former Strikeforce welterweight champion Saffiedine is also on 2 fight loss streak and it’s no surprise that both men need a win. Both men are known for going the distance. Dos Anjos on paper is the favourite, however at the welterweight level Saffiedine has more experience, so who knows what will happen, we’ll have to wait to find out.

(Welterweight) Dong Hyun Kim vs Colby Covington: Next, we have another welterweight bout. Dong Hyun Kim is on a record of 22 – 3 – 1 (1) and is currently on a 3-fight win streak, known for KO’s and going the distance. Colby Covington is also on a 3-fight win streak and a 11 – 1 – 0 record, this great opportunity for him; an NCAA All American and really good on the ground. This all depends on if it goes to the ground or stays standing, either way both men are looking for a finish.

(Heavyweight) Andrei Arlovski vs Marcin Tybura: It’s experience vs youth next. Andrei Arlovski has fought all over the world and is a former heavyweight champion. A very proficient knockout artist with a lot of experience. Marcin Tybura has been fighting professionally since 2011 and has racked a record of 15 – 2 – 0 and is known for being a finisher like his opponent. It’s a battle between Belarus vs Poland, could potentially pick up an accolade on the night, most probably KO of the night.

(Main Event) (Women’s Featherweight) Holly Holm vs Bethe Correia: This should be an interesting one, Holly Holm is probably the most proficient female striker in the sport, with an extensive background in professional boxing and headlined the biggest UFC attended event where she became the first fighter to stop Ronda Rousey and on the same night became bantamweight champion. Since then she has been on a 3 fight loss streak and needs a win here. Bethe Correia is more known for going the distance but is a hard fighter to beat; the women’s bantamweight division is still a new in the promotion and were just waiting for De Randamie and Cyborg, but De Randamie wants to move down to bantamweight, it’s still up in the air for now, but it’s good to see the female divisions developing.

That’s our breakdown, let us know your thoughts below, on Facebook and Twitter and you can watch the event this Saturday on UFC Fight Pass.
